Danang sits on Vietnam's central coast, where the Han River meets the South China Sea. Once a quiet fishing city, it has grown into one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic destinations — and its international marathon reflects that energy perfectly.
The Danang International Marathon offers a flat, fast course that appeals to runners chasing times, while the coastal scenery and city landmarks provide constant visual reward. With distance options from 5K to full marathon, the event draws everyone from elite runners to enthusiastic first-timers.
What makes Danang special for heritage runners is the proximity to Hoi An Ancient Town, the Cham ruins of My Son, and the Golden Bridge at Ba Na Hills — all within easy day-trip distance. The marathon becomes the centrepiece of a week-long cultural exploration.
The race starts near My Khe Beach — once known to American soldiers as "China Beach" and now one of the most beautiful urban beaches in Asia. Runners head north along the coast before turning inland to cross the spectacular Dragon Bridge, a 666-metre structure shaped like a fire-breathing dragon.
The course continues along the Han River, crossing the Han River Bridge before looping through the city centre past markets, pagodas, and French-colonial buildings. The final kilometres return to the beachfront for a finish with the sea on one side and the Marble Mountains on the horizon.
